28mm f/2.8 AIS - the best lens for travel that I've used. Light-weight & sharp. 80-200mm f/2.8 AF (the one without the silent-wave motor) - too heavy for me because I can't handhold it to save my life. I got sharper pics from my 105/2.5 and 200/4. That's $1600 wasted for me.

the lines and contours are very strong. too bad about the overcast sky though. i can imagine how much more dramatic the photos would look when set against a clear blue sky (or evening sky with dramatic reds)

Interesting discussion, I've never actually thought about the orientation of the lens in a dry cabinet except that keeping them neat and organised is important because i tend to just chuck my gear into the cabinet without much thought and this has resulted in situations whereby things fall out...
