Need help: availability of slide films in China?

Hi all, I hope folks who have lived in for extended periods can help me. I am wondering if slide films & processing are widely available in China, specifically in Shanghai. Asking because I'll be based in Shanghai for work for the next 3 to 4 years. Hoping to carry on shooting slide films...

Is d40 still a good buy?

Bought a set last night at $749 from Challenger. The kit comes with the AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G II lens, two 2GB SD cards, a screen protector, table-top tripod, camera bag and lens cleaning kit. Quite a good deal. You also have the option of buying the 55-200 lens at $400+, which will make it...

    Scanning film - advice needed

Hi all, I'm new to the digital format and hope that more experienced members can help me. I've got lots of film, both 35mm and 120, dating from almost 30 years and I'd like to archive them in digital format for preservation. I would also like to have the option of printing from the digital...

    Where to scan film?

Hi all, Does anyone know where I can get 35mm & 120 film scanned at high resolutions and bit-depth? I tried a few shops but results were less-than-acceptable. I've got rolls of slides & negatives dating back to the early 70s and I would like to archive them in digital form and also be able...

which is the best nikkor lens and which is the most overrated?

28mm f/2.8 AIS - the best lens for travel that I've used. Light-weight & sharp. 80-200mm f/2.8 AF (the one without the silent-wave motor) - too heavy for me because I can't handhold it to save my life. I got sharper pics from my 105/2.5 and 200/4. That's $1600 wasted for me.

    Meiji Shrine

the lines and contours are very strong. too bad about the overcast sky though. i can imagine how much more dramatic the photos would look when set against a clear blue sky (or evening sky with dramatic reds)

    Sunset at Koh Lipe, Thailand

Nice set. Loved #3 best but found the blur figures in #1 slightly distracting.

that's pretty good saturation. any post-processing done looks a tad too sharp?

    Black Nikon FE

Merry Holidays to you too. I have the FE chrome for the past 20+ years and it has been my mainstay in spite of other stuff that came and went (even bigger film cams). My take is to continue taking film and if you need digital images, get the slides scanned. It might sound tedious but film...

"You buy a DSLR and the price drops to half when you walk out the door!"

I'm not an expert in the economics of the camera market but I think with sub-35mm format DLSRs, the current technology is constantly pushing the envelope, which is why prices drop so much over a relatively short time. It is perhaps also why I find it better shooting film (especially bigger...

my first b&w wedding (on film)

yes, you're using it as though it's a so-called 1600 film. in fact, the iso/asa/din numbers that you see on film cartridges are the manufacturer's recommended rating. if you look at the cartridge of an ilford delta 3200 you will see that there are boxes for you to tick 800, 1600 or 3200 and the...

how to you guys keep your lens in the dry cabinet?

Interesting discussion, I've never actually thought about the orientation of the lens in a dry cabinet except that keeping them neat and organised is important because i tend to just chuck my gear into the cabinet without much thought and this has resulted in situations whereby things fall out...
